Omega : 3. Troubleshooting
| I have connected the Omega to my computer and installed the software but I am not able to record. | Make sure that the drivers have been installed correctly by checking the Device Manager. |
| I don't hear anything coming from the Omega. |
|
| I can not get signal from my microphone into the Omega, what’s wrong? | If the cable you are using with your microphone has a 1/4" connector on the end that connects to the Omega, be sure to use the instrument input on the front of the Omega and use the Line 3 knob to adjust the gain. Do not use the microphone insert points on the back of the Omega which are labeled ‘Insert’; these are a combination send/return jacks designed to be used with external signal processors. If you are using a condenser microphone you will have to connect it to one of the XLR microphone inputs on the back of the Omega and turn on the +48V switch to engage phantom power. If your microphone is High Impedance and uses a 1/4” connector you may choose to use a High to Low impedance transformer to connect it to the XLR inputs. |
| I have lost the power adapter from my Lexicon Omega. What adapter should I use or where can I purchase a replacement? | The adapter you choose must have a 9 Volt AC output and supply 1300mA current. A power supply with a DC output will not work, only an adapter with an AC output will power the Omega. |
| I can not get enough signal level from my microphone with the Omega, what’s wrong? | Make sure the 20db pad for the microphone inputs are not active. These switches can be found on the back of the Omega and are used to attenuate a signal that causes clipping even when the gain for the microphone is turned all the way down. The Omega’s microphone preamps provide 50dB of gain which should be enough for most applications. If you are using a microphone with low sensitivity or if you are recording a relatively quiet signal 50dB of gain may not be enough. It is possible to link two gain stages on the Omega together for increased gain. To do this, make the following connections: Connect the XLR microphone cable into the Mic 1 input. Connect one end of a typical TS instrument cable to the Mic 1 insert jack. Connect the other end of the TS cable to the Line 1 input. Use the Mic 1 and Line 1 knobs to increase your gain to the desired level. Since the microphone signal is being sent to the Line 1 input, the signal will need to be assigned to a USB audio channel using the Line 1 USB Assign switch. This configuration will allow for more gain, but the noise floor will also be increased. |
| I see Lexicon USB ASIO and Omega ASIO in the ASIO driver dropdown menu in Cubase LE, what is the difference? | Lexicon USB ASIO is the title for the original Omega driver from the Omega software CD. Omega ASIO is the title for the most recent Omega driver from our website; it is best to use this version of driver which can be found here: http://www.lexiconpro.com/ProductDownloads.aspx?ProductID=6&Type=1 . To install the most recent driver, download the OmegaASIOinstaler file to your desktop. Once the file has been saved, double click on the application to start the installer and follow the on screen instructions. Only the most recently installed version of driver will be available for use on your computer. |
| Why does the Omega driver control panel have settings for ASIO and WDM? | The Omega has two modes of operation, ASIO and WDM. This allows the Omega to be used with a variety of software applications which may require either ASIO or WDM drivers. ASIO mode must be selected in order to use the Omega with Cubase LE.
The Omega driver control panel can be accessed by clicking on the Omega icon in the system tray (the area in the lower right hand corner of your screen, next to the clock). If the Omega icon is not in the system tray go to Start > All Programs > Lexicon Omega > Omega ASIO Control Panel; this should make the icon appear in the system tray. The Omega driver control panel is a shortcut for enabling and disabling the appropriate Omega drivers so you do not have to access Sound video and game controller section of the Device manager. There are three audio drivers for the Omega: ‘Lexicon Direct device’ is the driver for ASIO mode; ‘Lexicon USB Audio 1-2’ and ‘Lexicon USB Audio 3-4’ are the drivers for WDM mode. Only one mode can be used at a time, so drivers for the mode that is not in use should be disabled and will have a red ‘x’ next to their title. |

| I can record a signal from the Omega onto my computer but I don’t hear any playback. | To hear playback from your computer first make sure the Monitor Mix knob on the Omega is set near the 12:00 position and that the Output Level knob is turned up. Also be sure that headphones are connected to the Omega’s headphone output or powered monitors, a stereo system, or your computer speakers are connected to the line outputs. |
